We are changing gears here at DX Central as it relates to our MW Frequency Challenges. After cycling through every single MW frequency at least twice over the past 4 seasons, we will spend the rest of Season 4 not focusing on specific frequency ranges, but rather a theme-based challenge approach.
For weeks 25 & 26 of Season 4 we are introducing the Spring Equinox Challenge. For this challenge, DXers will only be logging stations that they can receive during the grayline enhancement period. For the purposes of this challenge, that period is defined as being between one hour prior to through one hour after local sunrise or sunset.
It just so happens that the dates covered in this challenge will align with the Spring Equinox. The spring equinox provides DXers a unique opportunity to experience grayline enhancement conditions that are not available during any other time of the year! It also includes the transition from standard to daylight savings time, for an extra layer of uniqueness!
The challenge begins at 0200 UTC on Saturday, March 8, 2025 and runs through 0100 UTC on Saturday, March 22, 2025. Only receptions made during this timeframe will count towards the challenge.
The entire mediumwave band is available to DXers to complete this challenge from 530 to 1710 kHz. Any station heard (including TIS, pirate, etc.) are eligible to be logged provided the station logged is broadcasting on the frequency of reception. No spurs, no images, no harmonics, etc.
Portable operations are encouraged, within 25 miles of your home location.
DXers must use their own equipment for this challenge. Online SDRs are only allowed if they belong to or are managed/maintained by the submitting DXer.
Entries can be made at dxchallenges.com (does require users to register).
Good luck to all DXers!
